We’ve tested the driveability of the new Octavia G-TEC

June 2014 – ŠKODA AUTO started producing the CNG-powered Škoda Octavia G-TEC in June. We had the opportunity to try the spacious interior and good driveability of the low operating cost, CNG-powered vehicle.

“In connection with this model entering the market, we’ve strengthened the promotion of our CNG refuelling appliances towards the vehicle manufacturer and distributors as well as towards the end customers, especially those from the businesses sector. To do so, ŠKODA AUTO has made the Octavia G-TEC available to us for several days,“ said Jiří Slíva, Director of the Special Machining and Production Division.

The 1.4 TSI turbo-engine is designed to burn natural gas and gasoline, and switching between individual fuels is fully automatic. The CNG in the vehicle tank is sufficient for about 400 kilometres, while the petrol adds another 900 kilometres. “About 1,500 Octavia G-TECs are expected to be sold during the following eighteen months, with the end customers in the first phase being especially businesses. They can save hundreds of thousands by having a CNG vehicle fleet and their own filling stations, and in the case of larger fleets, even millions of Czech Crowns per year,” Jiří Slíva added.

The filling station, MJ Variant Plus, is the number one product for company fleets in the MOTOR JIKOV portfolio. It is characterised by its high technical variability, simple installation and minimal construction demands. It is intended especially for users who have an annual consumption of CNG of up to 60,000 m3, who require fast filling and prefer the possibility and comfort of refuelling in a rare network of public stations. The full refuelling process takes 3 minutes in such stations as these. MJ Variant Plus is designed to serve up to 25 Octavias, with a driving distance of 40,000 km per year.
